Crimes

A crime is defined as any act that is against the laws and affects everyone in society. It impacts on the victims, offenders and their families. The determination usually focuses on the seriousness of the crime and the effect on victims and society.

There are a few different ways I can think of to categorize crimes. One way to categorize crimes is to separate them into crimes against persons and crimes against property.

Crimes against persons or personal crimes, also are known as violent crimes are crimes that result in physical or mental harm to another person. These include aggravated, assault, child abuse, homicide, rape, robbery and sexual harassment. It was reported that violent crimes take place on average once every 20 to 30 seconds in the United States. Therefore, the chances of being the victim of violent crime in the U.S. nowadays are heavily high.

Property crimes are crimes that do not necessarily involve harm to another person. Alternatively, they involve an interference with another person’s right to use property. These crimes include arson, burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft. Property crimes are the most commonly committed crimes in America. These reported to the police happen on average once every two to three seconds.

However, in some cases, crimes can be both property and personal crime. For example, a thief is trying to break in and rob somebody in purpose of taking their values and injure him or the thief is using a gun. This is considered as both crimes.

Crimes can happen to anyone and anywhere. Nobody can tell if or when the crime is going to happen. Crimes are unlawful and dangerous. We should protect ourselves to avoid the experience of them.
